Freddie Pitcher was born in Baton Rouge, La., on April 28, 1945, to Freddie Pitcher Sr. and Lucy Ingram Pitcher. He graduated from McKinley High School (1962) and Southern University (B.A., 1966; J.D., 1973). He co-founded the law firm of Pitcher, Tyson, Avery, and Cunningham and was elected Baton Rouge's first African-American city court judge in 1983.
